Situated on a 10-acre farm, the Summerwinds Stables Horse Rescue (Hartly, Delaware 19953) is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit owned and operated by Elena DiSilvestro, who lives onsite with her family.
The DiSilvestros, and an essential corps of dedicated volunteers, tend to the physical and social needs of the horses in their charge 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Founded in 2001 as a labor of love with no operating budget, inspired by the desire to rescue and rehabilitate a badly neglected horse named George, Summerwinds Stables has evolved into a full-service rescue and adoption agency.
In addition to rescuing ponies and horses, many in dire need at the time of their arrival, Summerwinds has grown in scope to include many educational and training programs benefiting the local and surrounding communities as well as our equine friends.
Since its inception, Summerwinds Stables has demonstrated a level of commitment and professionalism that has been recognized several times over by prestigious national organizations without whose support and encouragement its rapid growth would not have been possible.
On any given day Summerwinds Stables is home to an average of 10 horses.
